Memberships?

Do you need to be a member of a camping/Motorhome group to stay in a campervan?
Thousands of independent commercial campsites, holiday parks, and public overnight stops welcome non-members. However, membership is required for specific network sites or offers distinct financial and location advantages.
Most VW owners agree that joining a club is completely optional because independent sites are widely available.
Independent vs. Club-Run Sites
Independent campsites: Open to everyone, no membership needed at all. You just book and pay the standard nightly rate.
Main club sites (e.g., the Camping and Caravanning Club or the Caravan and Motorhome Club): These major organizations generally allow non-members to stay on their larger main network sites, but they charge significantly higher nightly fees if you do not belong.
Certificated Sites (CLs and CSs): These are smaller, exclusive 5-pitch fields managed by the major clubs. You typically must be a member of that specific club to stay on these smaller, low-cost private locations.
Benefits of Joining a Club
Lower rates: Members get discounted pitch fees, which quickly make up for the annual membership cost if you travel often.
Exclusive access: Access to small, quiet member-only certified locations in scenic rural areas.
Extra perks: Discounts on ferry crossings, vehicle insurance, and outdoor
